Is Archiving to LTO Tape Right for Me?

LTO tape is perfect for files that you do not need to access, but can’t afford to delete. Hard Drive life expectancy is just 3-5 years and cloud storage bills keep coming every month. LTO Tapes, stored under the right conditions, can last 30+ years.

STEP 1

Contact us with how many terabytes of data you need to archive so we can prepare a quote.

STEP 2

You mail your hard drives or NAS to us. We also accept cloud transfer information for your data via S3 bucket or similar.

STEP 3

We transfer your data to tape and provide a transfer report including checksum information. There is no vendor lockin, data is stored in the open LTFS (Linear Tape File System) format.

STEP 4

We mail you your tapes. If you ever need to retrieve the data simply contact us or utilize open source LTFS software to mount the tapes as an external hard drive on your computer.

What Hard Drive formats do you accept?

We accept data mailed on hard drives formatted for Mac, Windows, or Linux.

What NAS formats do you accept?

We accept any NAS with a 10Gbe ethernet or fiber connection.

Additionally, if you have a TrueNAS or FreeNAS based system there is no need to mail the NAS. Simply send us the hard drives.

What Generation Tape will I recive back?

We strongly recommend LTO generation 8 (12TB Capacity) for price/TB. However, we can archive your data to generations 5-9.

How do I access my data on LTFS tapes?

Simply download the LTFS drivers from your tape drive manufacturer’s website (i.e. HP, Dell, Overland, ect.), insert your tape, and follow the instructions for mounting the tape. It will show up just like an external hard drive.

There is no vendor lock in. Any tape drive can read data written from another manufacturer’s tape drive.
